Just a Beautiful Winter Day
Welcome to Kergloff Farm in Knowlton, NJ. The farm comprises 242 acres, in addition to several adjoining parcels of various sizes. I do not own the land, but am very fortunate to enjoy the support of several Knowlton landowners. My flock consists of about 200-220 Texel/Dorper and purebred Dorper ewes and lambs.

The flock is entirely grass-fed and lives on pasture. My sheep graze all winter long, but are supplemented with hay during that season for various reasons. My sheep are never fed grain of any kind. No corn, no antibiotics, no growth hormones. The meat I produce is lean and tasty. See eatwild.com for more information on the virtues of pasture raised lamb. "You are what you eat." That includes my sheep, who live as humans originally intended them to, as true ruminants.

Lambing occurs in late April into May and increases the flock size from 80 or so to 200+ during the five to six months lambs are grown and finished on spring, summer, and fall pasture.

Both lambs and ewes are de-wormed once per year, and antibiotics are only used to treat an occasional case of mastitis brought on around lambing time.

The flock is also "tended" by myself and my herding dogs. Sheep are brought from their enclosure into open pasture in the morning and the late afternoon/early evening for several hours each day while my Beaucerons patrol along borders and act as "living fences".

The white dog featured in the photo above is Bella, a young female Maremma who guards the flock when I am away. Bella is quite intelligent, very tolerant with humans, but extremely aggressive with any four-legged creature that enters her fenced-in territory. I sleep well at night...

News Flash: Winter breeding planned for Vendra de Ker Gal X Uly de la Prahas (Brevet Troupeau). Please send an e-mail if interested. Both pedigrees can be seen at www.aboutbeaucerons.com (type in names after clicking on "database")
